There was a time that I thought I didn’t have time for keyword research… heck… I didn’t know I had to do it much less have time for it. Of course, the terms SEO, PPC, SEM, SERP, etc had absolutely no meaning to me whatsoever. When I was finally exposed to these terms, I quickly realized that I had some learning to do. I learned that some keywords are doomed right from the start. They might have too many “inline competing pages”, or the competition might be too tough on that particular keyword phrase. These are things you need to know before you launch a campaign.

I found a couple great mentors, Steven Clayton and Tim Godfrey. They are not personally mentoring me but I’ve found a ton of knowledge in their courses and the videos are so personal that it seems more one on one than it really is. Plus they have a support staff that rivals top internet and computer companies and they’re super helpful.

They have some great courses that take you through the essentials of making money online. Their courses like Niche Blueprint and Commission Blueprint (or the updated Niche Blueprint 2.o and Commission Blueprint 2.o) take you through all you need to know in finding and starting online revenue streams. We’re talking about making money online in niches and through affiliate programs.

What I’ve found out in using their programs is that I MUST have time for keyword research. It’s an absolute must, before you even launch your venture. I thought I would just pick a Clickbank® product and bammm! Customers would start buying. LOL How Naive.

The Niche Blueprint, Commission Blueprint, Mining Money Online, IM Eye courses and their membership site, The IM Advantage, have taught me most everything I needed to know about online affiliate marketing. I have picked up tips on SEO, blogging, and other affiliate marketing strategies from other systems and teachers out there (Scott Jay Ringle and Mike Dillard to name a few) but I think my biggest goldmine of information I’ve gleaned was from Godfrey and Clayton.

Now, speaking of keyword research, all the systems above give you access to some of the tools that I use every day in my keyword research. Tools like Keyword Blueprint which helps identify a good keyword from an SEO standpoint and a cost standpoint in a PPC campaign. Remember that I said some keywords might be too difficult to rank for when you’re going after the word from an SEO point of view? This is the tool to help you work through that.

I didn’t intend this post to be a sales pitch but I’m absolutely sold on the training, courses, and resources made available by Steve Clayton and Tim Godfrey. One thing that’s not clear on that page is which is the most important resource to grab. That’s going to vary depending on your goals, but if I were to slap a “one size fits all” label on it I’d say The IM Advantage is the best and most economic tool available. Make time for keyword research and you’ll find that you will make money with affiliate programs, instead of falling by the wayside like so many other people (or like me) who get started on a whim thinking it’s as easy as the marketing that hooked them might cause you to believe (wow… what a huge run-on sentence) haha
